sometimes I want to roll around on the floor screaming like a three-year-old

Dealing with a toddler can be challenging because they are going through huge changes in their little bodies, they don’t have the words to express everything they want to say, and they want to exercise a lot more autonomy than they are ready for.

Dealing with a teen can be challenging because they are going through huge changes in their big bodies, they have a lot of #$&#*$#&*($ words to express everything they want to say, and they want to exercise even more autonomy than their parents are ready for.

As many people do when they become parents, I came to appreciate my mother more when I had a child of my own.

When Kristina hit the toddler stage, I went to my mother and asked her how she had managed it: there was a point when she had two teenagers and two toddlers in the house at the same time.

Her response:

Well, dear.  I found it worked best to treat you all pretty much the same: you all acted pretty much the same.

Most of the time, we have pretty smooth sailing Chez Scatterbeams, but yesterday afternoon was rough.  If I thought it would have been at all effective, I might have done something like this:

Things are much better now, thank you.
