Apparently, hummingbirds symbolise the enjoyment of life and lightness of being.
I’ve wanted a proper hummingbird feeder for a long time. We knew we had hummingbirds around – they’ve visited the lilac and apple trees every spring. A feeder showed up here around Christmas – this one – and we finally hung it out by the apple tree on Mother’s Day. The hummers found it right away and have visited steadily all summer.
It’s been quite a summer. Stories about that soon, although I might write about other things first.
In the meantime, I want to thank all of you who reached out to us, sent warm thoughts, and shared hugs – virtual or real time. I want to reassure you that we are fine – each of us – well and whole and hanging in there. We’ve had loss and grief, we are leaning into it and still living life here and now.
Watching the hummingbirds has been a wonder, a joy, and a comfort. I don’t know if the ones here will over-winter – we’ll keep them supplied with food if they do.
If they migrate, we’ll keep an eye out for them next year.
Because even though we know winter is coming, we know just as surely, so will spring.
